The Prestolite Motor was used on early Meyer E-47 plow pumps, as well as the U-13 Meyer Plow Pump. Here is a picture of the top cap of a Prestolite Motor.

Brush kits are still available for these motors. To install them, you must be able to solder. The cost of the brush kits is around $40. It is not really worth it to replace them when it is about half the cost of a new motor. Plus, the rest of the motor is still around 30 years old! A Bosch Type Motor will bolt right on in place of the Prestolite. You might have to drill and tap the holes for the Bosch, but there are two areas for this already on the top of the pump. It is not difficult.

The arrow is pointing to where the rust is on the end of the motor shaft. This is where it rides on the Bronze Bushing in the End Cap of the motor. There should be NO RUST here. Polish it off with emery cloth, a wire wheel, whatever. How smooth it is in the end is not critical. not having rust on it is. Put a dab of waterproof grease on it before you reassemble the Motor. Rust here will actually lock the motor and prevent it from turning. A lack of grease here will allow it to rust. When you use it, naturally some of the rust will wear off, BUT when it sits for 8+ months, it can rust solid in place if it is not greased. It is not something you have to do often, but it is necessary maintenance every 4 or 5 years.
