How does the A Frame center pivot get ripped out?

Ever wonder how the center pivot gets torn out of a plow? When a plow is straight and you hit something, the cushion valve or crossover valve allows the plow to "absorb" the hit. When the plow is fully angled, there is no give, and the pivot point is changed to the end of the PA Ram. First the hole eggs out (repeated hits), and then eventually if left unchecked, rips out. A maniac can rip it apart in one solid hit going too fast.

Here is another diagram I made a while back.

This one was more to illustrate why you should not fully angle your plow if you think there may be an obstacle hidden in the snow. At full angle, there is no give. I know of one truck that was totaled after hitting a catch basin at full angle. It shifted the frame rail back far enough on the passenger side that the passenger door would not open! Keep in mind the less the plow is angled, the wider the path you are clearing.
