Subject: New Contact Request: Angle problems

Name: Chris
Subject: Angle problems
Message: Meyer E-60 : lifts and lowers ok, angles left ok but after
full left angle will intermittently angle right when button pushed.
Installed new ball type couplers after rebuild. Motor runs when
attempting angle right and hydraulic hoses jump.
Thanks guys.

Why did you change the couplers?
The C Valve was fine during the rebuild?
Will it angle right if you do not go all the way left? Start at center
and it angles right?

I'd be tossing the ball type couplers and going to pin type couplers,
rule them out. Even brand new ones can be bad. I learned my lesson
with a box of (12) ball type couplers that after I put on a third set trying to
solve a problem that was not there before, I put the old coupler back
on and all worked fine. I have never installed a ball type since. It has been 9 years.

It is much more common for a coupler to be the problem in that it lets
fluid flow one way, but acts as a check valve the other when the pressure is high.
Moving back and forth the pressure is low because there is no
resistance, but at full extension, the pressure spikes, and the ball
blocks the orifice and fluid can't leave. Most of the time it is the
fluid trying to leave the cylinder that is compressing rather than the
one that the pump is sending fluid to extend.

Couplers have been such a common problem that all plow manufacturers
ditched them completely as soon as they could on new plows.

Chuck,
You are definitely "THE MAN" when it comes to these Meyer systems. I did not have the problem before the rebuild. I changed the couplers during the rebuild because the ball bearings had and were falling out due to age. C valve is fine. Once it was going back right it would continue to go all the way, it was just when it went all the way left it seemed like it got stuck and with some taps on and off the switch it would go right again. I had to go to 2 different TSC stores to get the couplers. I replaced them and it works great now, no issues.
THANK YOU CHUCK!!!!

Chris,

Glad you got it fixed when it was not snowing and the plow was stuck to the left at 2am.

You probably never would have thought a brand new coupler would be the problem, and I didn't either 9 years ago. It was my friend Jerre Heyer from Jerre's Service in Erie, PA that schooled me on couplers 9 years ago. I'm just passing along what I learned.
