    E-60 "Seals"

THE most important "seals" (O Rings) to replace on the E-60 are the one on the back of the Gear Pump, that mates to the Pump Mounting Plate, and the Lift Ram Packing. Why? Because if either one of these fails, your unit will stop working. Yes, the others are important, but they will not prevent you from using the unit. If the Packing fails, the unit will not stay up, or not raise at all. IF the O Ring on the back of the Gear Pump fails, the unit cannot build pressure, so you will lose all functions.

Often when a self proclaimed expert "rebuilds" an E-60, somehow the Gear Pump is not removed, and that critical O Ring on the back not replaced. Why? I assume because they are scared of it, much like removing the Crossover Relief Valve. You need a special tool to install the Gear Pump. There is no easy way around using the tool.

Unlike the E-47, which runs @ 1650 psi, and the E-57 which runs @ 2000 psi, the E-60 original design runs @ 2500 psi. WHY? Because with the smaller bore, there is less surface area for the fluid to push against to raise the plow. So it takes more pressure with less surface area. The 2500 psi was (is) necessary to raise a C-9 with snow stuck to the blade.

For a "normal" rebuild, all that is necessary is an E-60 Basic Seal Kit. Why? Because the lifespan of the Valve O Rings is a lot longer than the ones I mentioned above, AND valves are often replaced so they have new O Rings on them. It is rare that a unit needs to be rebuilt and ALL the valves are original. There is no point in changing the O Rings on the Valves unless you have a problem. Now if you think you are "being proactive" by replacing the O Rings, go right ahead. Just make sure you take a picture of them, or note the location of the Back Ups and O Rings on each journal. If you put the new ones on in the wrong order, the O Rings will blow out, creating a problem you did not have before you were proactive...

So what comes in a Basic Seal Kit? The Top cap Wiper Seal, the Clear O Ring that goes under the Top Cap on top of the Grooves Down Washer, the Top Cap O Ring, a second O Ring the same size as the Top Cap O Ring for the Tank to seal on the Sump Base. On the Lift Ram; the Packing Cup (for H Models) Packing Washer, O Ring that goes on the Lift Ram to seal the Piston, two O Rings for the Cylinder where it sits in the Sump Base (one for standard and one for H Models). Because the Motor Mounting Plate is where the Pump Shaft Seal is located, it is included in the kit. The Pump Check Valve O Ring, and the fat O Ring that goes on the back of the Gear Pump are included. There are 3 O Rings that on other units are the same size for the PA Block. On the E-60 two of them are the same size, and the third could be one of two different sizes, so both sizes are included. To date, I have NEVER seen one of the PA Block O Rings fail other than if the PA Block Bolts came loose. There is no reason to ever remove the PA Block unless the Sump Base is being changed. There is no reason (once again) to be proactive with them. If you snap one of them trying to get the PA Block off, you will be sorry you were proactive...

What is NOT included as far as O Rings? The Drain Plug O Rings are NOT included, at least not in the kits we make and sell. Why? Because they are actually a tapered O Ring that I have not found a source for yet. IF one of yours is torn or leaking ,buy a new Drain Plug. The Pump Relief Valve O Rings are not included. They are included with a new Pump Relief Valve. the Guide Bushing in NOT a seal, so it is not included in any Seal Kits on the market (except the Ultimate Rebuild Kits we sell which are more than Seal Kits as far as what is included).

Ironically, the Genuine Meyer Master Seal Kits do NOT include every single O Ring either. Such as the Pilot Check Piston Nut O Ring, or the Pilot Check Valve Plug O Ring. Nor does the Master include the Pump Relief Valve O Rings.

Here is what is left of the fat O Ring on the back of the E-60 Gear Pump. This unit would not build any pressure for any function. Replacing this O Ring solves the problem.
